Meet #teamsparkle – @donosteph07

We think THE best part about Sparkle Athletic is the AHH-MAZING people that make up #teamsparkle. We are so incredibly lucky to “meet” (IRL and virtually) so many team members, but we thought it’s about time we introduced the people that make up this inspiring & motivating community.

With that being said, it’s time to meet a member of #teamsparkle. Up next is Stephany, aka @donosteph07 on Twitter!

Tell us about your past race/running experience:

Stephany: After a car accident broke my pelvic and collapsed a lung I became sedentary and gained weight. Between the weight gain and lack of muscle building the pain in my hips became chronic. I attempted several times to start an exercise routine to try to lose the weight, but would either lose interest or the pain would cause me to stop working out.

I heard about the Giants Race in San Francisco and it sounded like fun, but never really thought there was any way I would ever be able to run a race. So almost 2 years ago I decided to start running. I really didn’t have a purpose, just thought it would be something I could do with my husband. We started running (really I was walking) a mile around the neighborhood. Those seemed like the longest miles ever. After a few months I was able to actually run a full mile without stopping. A friend of mine saw that my husband and I were running and she told us about a Police Officers Memorial Half Marathon and talked us into signing up. Signing up for a half marathon before we had even done a 5K (yeah, not smart). I remember struggling through it to finish. The pain in my hips was horrible. Then we got to the finish line and they handed me this medal; it was such an amazing feeling. I remember thinking “I want to do that again.”
I have probably done just about everything possible in “what not to do if you want to run a half marathon,” but I had a blast, made some amazing memories with my husband, daughters and friends, found a love for running, lost some weight and have no pain in my hips any more.

We are so glad you are a part of #teamsparkle. When did you first join and what color was your first skirt?

S: I knew for my first half marathon I wanted to wear a cute outfit that fit the theme of the run and someone had told me about the skirts. I bought one and fell in love with them. I first joined #teamsparkle in September 2015. My first skirt was royal blue for the Police Officers Memorial run.

What/Who inspires you to continue running?

S: My husband and kids are such an amazing support system. My husband runs every mile with me, pushing me to keep going. He is the reason I have found I have the ability to run and that I know I  am strong enough. Knowing I have his support inspires me to continue.

We all know how much #teamsparkle loves their treats as much as they love running… What’s your favorite indulgence?

S: I’m a salty girl. I love tortilla chips. I don’t even need a dip or salsa, just the salty tortilla chips.

Which Sparkle Athletic product is your favorite “go to”?

S: My skirts. I love my skirts. When I run I am sure I look a mess. Red face, sweat dripping, and I’m sure you can see the exhaustion in my face, but I feel wearing a cute sparkly skirt takes the focus off my hot mess.

What is one of your favorite parts of racing in a Sparkle Athletic skirt?

S: I love that they are light weight. No matter what look I am going for, I always have a skirt to match and I always get compliments on them.

Thank YOU so very much for “joining the team.” Individually each & every one of you is amazing, but as a “team” we ROCK.

Everyone has a story, and we want to hear YOURS! The #teamsparkle community is such a loving and inclusive group, but often times we are tackling our runs solo. Knowing your teammates can help you to feel more a part of the running community.

If you would like to share your story, whether it is about how you got started running, what motivates your running, why you love running, or how running has changed your life, please let us know! We would love to feature you on an upcoming “Meet The Team“ post – so email us at meettheteam@sparkleathletic.com!
