Your Name: Christy

Tell us about your past race/running experience: When I was about to turn 30 years old I new I wanted to do something special for myself. I had run a little in the past and enjoyed it. I even did the 10 Anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon with my then boyfriend, now husband in 2003. Years went by, two kids later, I was almost 30 years old. I decided to start running as a hobby. My husband, a type one diabetic, also enjoyed running. So, we began running together pushing a double stroller. This helped me to figure out what I wanted to do for 30. I decided that the year I was 30, I was going to run one race a month. Wither it be a 5k or a half marathon. Wither it be with someone or alone. I raced for 16 months straight. Some days I hatedtraining and less days I loved it. In April of this year, I turned 34 years old. I have done 11 half marathons,a handful of mud runs (including Tough Mudder), 10ks, 10 milers and many 5k. I have done raced with my mother, sister in law, good girl friends but mostly with my husband. I have placed for my age group and even placed at a Disney race on a team with my husband (Expedition Everest, co-ed team). I can now fully say I love to run. I AM a Runner!

What race did you run? I ran the 2014 Iron Girl 5k, with my seven year old daughter.

Why did you sign up for this race? This is a race I have done for the past three years. Two years ago I PRed here. (I have since passed that PR) Last year, I asked my daughter if she would like to do a race with me. She said yes. Both this year and last we did a run/walk. Three minute run, one minute walk. She did great. I had to hold her back from trying to run the whole race.

What/Who inspires your to run? Other runners inspire me. People that have run for years, inspire me to stick with it. New runners, inspire me to get that new love for running back. Fast runners, inspire me to push harder.

What is your best training tip? If you can get over the mental part. You can do anything. Don’t always compare yourself to others. Their life is different than yours.

Water or Sports Drink? Water, water! Drink until your pee is clear. lol

Tell us about the outcome of the race: We had a great time. My sister in law did the race with us. Daddy, little sister and our one eyed dog cheered us on at the start and the finish line.

Your favorite post-race indulgence? I LOVE cupcakes!!!! #runhardeatcupcakes

Favorite part of racing in a Team Sparkle skirt? The skirt brings confidence. It brings awareness “is she wearing a skirt”. It brings fun to every run. I find myself wearing the skirt (or other sparkle gear) on treadmill days or even around the neighborhood. I love the new “Respect the Skirt” shirt!
